Right to work

Have your passport or your share code from GOV.UK ready. Most peak employers check it before your first shift.

Comfy, safe footwear

Warehouse shifts mean a lot of walking. If the job needs safety boots or hi-vis, the employer should supply them free.

Say yes to shifts

Being flexible on nights and weekends is the quickest way to more hours, and to being kept on after Christmas.

How many Christmas temp jobs are there right now?

52,254 temp peak roles are live on YourNextJob.co.uk (updated 1 November 2026, 16:27). New roles land every day through the season.

How much do Christmas temp jobs pay?

Roles that state an hourly rate advertise a typical (median) £14.73 an hour, with most between £13.07 and £18.96, based on 20,549 live roles. Nights, weekends and overtime often pay more, and you must always get at least the National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage for your age.

When do Christmas temp jobs start hiring?

Most big warehouses, couriers and retailers start recruiting for peak in September and October, then keep hiring into December as orders build. Apply early: the first people in usually get the pick of the shifts, and are first in line to be kept on in January.

Do I need experience for Christmas warehouse work?

Usually not. Picking, packing, sorting and stock roles are normally trained on site, often in a day or two. Driving roles need the right licence: a car licence covers most van delivery work up to 3.5 tonnes, and HGV work needs a C or C+E licence.

Can a Christmas temp job become permanent?

Often, yes. Plenty of peak temps are kept on after Christmas, especially reliable people who turn up for every shift. Look for "temp to perm" on the advert, and tell your manager or agency early that you would like to stay.

Do temporary workers get holiday pay?

Yes. Temporary and agency workers build up paid holiday from their first day. If your hours vary week to week, it is usually worked out as 12.07% of the hours you work. Your payslip should show it.

How much do Christmas temp jobs pay?

You must be paid at least the National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage for your age. Many peak roles pay more for nights, weekends or overtime, and the advert should say so. On YourNextJob.co.uk the pay is shown on every job wherever the employer gives it.

Should I apply through an agency or direct?

Either works. Many large operators hire peak staff through recruitment agencies as well as directly. A genuine UK agency will never charge you a fee to find you work, and your employer should give you safety boots and hi-vis free of charge if the job needs them.
