Manpower is currently recruiting for an experienced Maintenance Assistant to join a well-established and prestigious College in Oxford City Centre on a Permanent basis.

\n Salary Offered is £33000pa and expectations to be on call for out of hour duties on a rota basis.

\n

\n *Please note a Full UK Driving Licence is needed

\n About the Role

\n

\n This is a hands-on maintenance position supporting the day-to-day upkeep, repair and compliance of a large and busy estate. The successful candidate will carry out a mix of planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive repairs and general maintenance duties.

\n

\n This role would suit someone with previous building maintenance experience who is practical, reliable, customer-focused and comfortable working in a varied environment where no two days are the same.
\n Please note: This is not purely a facilities inspection role. Alongside planned maintenance activities, the successful candidate must be willing to undertake less desirable tasks when required, including:

• Unblocking toilets
\n
• Clearing and maintaining drains
\n
• General reactive maintenance issues
\n
• Manual handling and movement of furniture/equipment
\n
• Routine water hygiene flushing checks (carried out every Wednesday alongside the wider maintenance team)
\n

\n

Key Responsibilities

\n

\n
• Carry out planned, preventative and reactive maintenance works across the estate
\n
• Complete routine compliance inspections including water hygiene, emergency lighting and fire safety checks
\n
• Perform minor repairs and basic adaptation works to buildings, fixtures and equipment
\n
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency issues
\n
• Assist with furniture moves, equipment replacement and room set-ups as required
\n
• Work closely with housekeeping and operational teams to maintain high standards throughout the estate
\n
• Complete all maintenance records accurately using electronic systems and tablets
\n
• Ensure workshops, stores and work areas remain safe, clean and organised
\n
• Follow all health and safety procedures and safe working practices at all times
\n

What We're Looking For

\n Essential

\n

\n
• Previous experience in building services or general maintenance
\n
• Proven practical experience carrying out repairs and maintenance tasks
\n
• Good understanding of health and safety requirements
\n
• Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively
\n
• Comfortable dealing with urgent and reactive maintenance issues
\n
• Strong customer service and communication skills
\n
• Basic IT skills, including the use of tablets and maintenance systems
\n
• Full UK driving licence with no endorsements
\n
• Flexible approach and willingness to support a wider team
\n

Qualifications

\n

\n
• GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)
\n
• NVQ Level 2, City & Guilds, recognised apprenticeship, relevant trade qualification, or equivalent practical experience
\n

\n

Desirable

\n

\n
• Trade qualifications in a maintenance discipline
\n
• Broad knowledge of building maintenance and facilities management
\n
• Experience carrying out compliance checks and planned preventative maintenance
\n
