Kitchen Assistant

We are currently searching for an exceptional person to join us as a Kitchen Assistant at our outstanding nursing home, Kirk Lane in Livingston Village, West Lothian. Kirk Lane is recognised as a Top20 care home in Scotland in 2026 (carehome.co.uk) and in 2024 won Regional Care Home of the Year Scotland at the UK Caring Awards. Please note this post offers fantastic working hours with no late night working allowing for a more positive work/life balance than elsewhere in the hospitality sector and alternate weekends off. This post will be working 4 days - 40 hours per week.Job PurposeTo assist the cook in preparation of food stuffsTo wash, sterilise and store crockery, cutlery and other equipment in the appropriate mannerTo maintain hygienic working conditions in the kitchen and surrounding areas at all times and keep free of unnecessary clutterTo adhere to the kitchen cleaning scheduleTo uphold residents’ participation strategyTo treat colleagues with respect and ensure teamwork is good Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesTo give assistance to the cook in preparation of meals by requestTo assist residents at mealtimes, if requiredTo keep the kitchen free of dirty utensils and dishesTo keep all surfaces in the kitchen clean and free of contamination using appropriate chemicals in correct strengths avoiding waste and misuseTo become familiar with all equipment and machinery and observe the correct use at all timesTo keep all equipment and tools clean and in good working order and report any breakagesTo be vigilant and report immediately any misuse of company property or stockTo read and observe all notices displayed in the work placeTo become familiar with company policy and procedure regarding the work place, health and safety, annual leave, sick leave, fire regulations and drillTo wear a uniform as directed by the companyTo wear protective clothing as necessaryTo undertake any reasonable duties as directed by superiors to ensure the smooth, efficient running of the nursing home
