About the role
Do you have a knack for helping people, and a desire to work at the heart of the local community? We are looking for an enthusiastic and versatile person to join our friendly and hard-working team. Our Community Library Assistants are the first point of contact for members of the public who are visiting and using our libraries and consequently the role is varies and allows staff to develop many different skills.
Wisbech Library is a busy and vibrant library serving a growing, and diverse, community. As well as catering for all ages with our selection of books, we organise regular activities and events, and work closely with schools and other local groups.
This is a Saturday post based in Wisbech Library for 6 hrs pw. The hours are 9.30am to 4.00pm, with a half-hour unpaid lunchbreak. Although the role is based at Wisbech, you must be able to travel to other libraries within Fenland, especially Whittlesey.
For more information, or to chat about this opportunity, please contact the Area Library Manager [email removed] [phone removed]
Interviews will be held on Saturday 12th December at Wisbech Library.
Appointment to this post will be subject to the outcome of an Enhanced Disclosure obtained through the Disclosure and Barring Service. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
What will you be doing?
This is primarily a customer facing role working in the library, dealing with enquiries, supporting customers to access online services and promoting the Library offer in the community.
There are many opportunities to support and deliver Library events, including The Library Presents, Lego, Craft Club & Storytime. Although there is plenty of routine work, there are also many opportunities to be creative.
Library experience is an advantage, however, we would love to hear from candidates who have demonstrated exceptional customer service skills in other contexts. Training will be given on specific library systems, but an ability to work with IT is essential.
The successful candidate will be passionate about what public libraries can offer, and able to promote our services both within the library and in the wider community.
