Personal Assistant

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME

I’m a 19-year-old woman living in Penarth with my family. I enjoy participating in a volunteering programme which includes dog walking, working in a charity shop and volunteering at Ysgol y Deri.

I’m fun-loving and enjoy being around people. I like helping others and feel happy and proud when I know I’m doing a good job. I enjoy getting involved in activities and being part of my local community. However, I can sometimes feel overwhelmed in very busy or noisy environments and may need reassurance and support to help me feel comfortable.

Because of my disability, I can find reading, planning and following complex instructions difficult. I benefit from someone who is patient, supportive and able to explain things clearly, break tasks down into manageable steps and help me feel confident in what I’m doing. With the right support and encouragement, I can develop my independence, build relationships and enjoy new experiences.

I’m looking for someone friendly and approachable who will get to know me, understand my needs and help me to grow in confidence while supporting me to enjoy my volunteering and activities in the community.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To help me become more independent and gain confidence around new people and in different social situations.HOURS OF WORK

Up to 9 hours per week.

Ideally worked on a Thursday, Friday or a combination of both days.

Flexibility to provide cover for any absences of my other PA, where possible.

RATE OF PAY

Hourly Rate £15.50

TASKS CAN INCLUDE

• Supporting me to become more independent out in the community.
• Supporting me to attend and participate in my volunteering programme, including dog walking, working in a charity shop and volunteering at Ysgol y Deri.
• Helping me develop my social skills and feel comfortable in different environments.
• Providing clear instructions and helping me with planning and organising activities when needed.
• Recognising when I feel overwhelmed by busy or noisy surroundings and supporting me to manage these situations.
• Reassuring and encouraging me when I feel anxious or find it difficult to manage my emotions.
• Helping me build confidence, develop new skills and enjoy positive experiences with other people.

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

• Female PA preferred.
• Patient, kind, friendly and understanding.
• Energetic, outgoing and easy to get along with.
• Enjoys helping others and can offer encouragement and positive support.
• Able to communicate clearly, give simple instructions and provide reassurance when needed.
• Understanding of disability and the importance of promoting independence, dignity and confidence.
• Must have a full UK driving licence and access to their own car.

ABOUT THE JOB

This position is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS Disclosure (Police Check), which must be completed prior to the commencement of employment. The cost of this check will be covered by the Local Authority.

All necessary checks will be conducted to verify that any candidate has the legal right to work in the UK before employment begins.

Although this is a part-time role, it is a legitimate position requiring the submission of a National Insurance number. Employment will commence under an initial trial period.

Wages will be paid on a four-weekly basis and appropriate holiday pay will be provided.
