Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

We are recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established manufacturing business based in Northampton.

This is a predominantly days-based position, offering a competitive salary, regular overtime opportunities and an excellent benefits package.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, servicing and repairing a wide range of production machinery, ensuring equipment reliability and minimising downtime.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive breakdown repairs.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical faults on production machinery.
• Maintain conveyors, elevators, grinders, gearboxes and rotating equipment.
• Service and repair mechanical drive systems and plant equipment.
• Read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings.
• Support continuous improvement and equipment reliability.

Skills & Experience Required

• Previous mechanical maintenance experience within manufacturing, production or industrial environments.
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience working with conveyors, motors, gearboxes and rotating machinery.
• Recognised apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent experience.
• Good understanding of planned preventative maintenance.
• Electrical and pneumatic knowledge would be advantageous.
• Food manufacturing or process industry experience would be beneficial.

Working Hours & Overtime

• Monday-Friday: 07:30-17:30 (1-hour lunch).
• 7.5 hours paid at basic rate.
• 1.5 hours paid at time and a half.
• Weekend overtime availability is essential.
• On-call rota following a satisfactory probationary period of up to 6 months, with the option to work nights during the call-out week.
