About the role
Make a Difference in Lancaster
Join Lancaster City Council as a Housing Technician and play a vital role in improving the quality and management of private rented housing. Your work will directly enhance health and safety by tackling hazards like damp, mould, and fuel poverty, while supporting tenants and landlords to create safer, healthier homes. You’ll be at the heart of our community-focused approach, helping to build trust and promote high housing standards across Lancaster.
This is a temporary role for a fixed term of 24 months.
What You’ll Be Doing
You will inspect private residential properties, manage complex caseloads, and enforce housing regulations through legal notices and court representation. Your role includes conducting surveys and risk assessments, providing expert advice, and working closely with landlords, tenants, and community groups. You’ll also support initiatives to improve housing conditions and deliver emergency responses when needed.
You’ll Fit Right In If…
You have a relevant degree or professional experience in housing, with strong knowledge of housing legislation and enforcement. You communicate clearly, manage your workload independently, and bring excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills. You share our values of Working Together, Ambition, Pride, and Ownership, and hold a full UK driving licence to support your role in the community.
