The role
SSEN Transmission is delivering a major programme of work to upgrade the electricity transmission network across the north of Scotland. Our projects include new overhead lines, substations, subsea links and associated infrastructure that will help connect renewable energy and support a secure, cleaner energy system.
We are looking for an Assistant Forestry Manager to join our Forestry team and build their experience across the planning, design and delivery of forestry activity on transmission projects. Working alongside experienced Forestry Managers and wider project teams, you will support forestry management from early development through to project delivery, helping make sure work is planned safely, responsibly and with good attention to detail.
This is a strong development opportunity for someone with forestry knowledge who is ready to apply it in a large infrastructure environment. You will gain exposure to varied projects, learn from specialists across land, environment and project delivery, and develop the confidence to manage forestry activity across different stages of the project lifecycle.
You will
- Support forestry planning, design and delivery across a portfolio of transmission projects, working closely with Forestry Managers and project teams.
- Help coordinate forestry project management activity, including programme updates, records, project information and actions needed to support safe and timely delivery.
- Assist with identifying and managing forestry-related risks to project delivery, network security and responsible woodland management.
- Support forestry input at different project stages, from early site assessment and development through to project refinement and delivery.
- Build positive working relationships with internal colleagues and external stakeholders, including landowners, tenants, agents, forestry contractors, Scottish Forestry and other relevant bodies.
You have
- Knowledge of forestry management practice, forestry measurement protocols and forestry operations, with an interest in developing further expertise in timber harvesting operations.
- An understanding of the UK Forestry Standard, best practice guidance, felling licence requirements, woodland management planning and planting schemes.
- Awareness of woodland valuation and standing tree crops, or the ability and willingness to develop this knowledge in a supported environment.
- Good communication and organisational skills, with the confidence to work with different stakeholders and manage competing priorities.
- An HNC, HND, degree or equivalent experience in forestry, land management or a related discipline, with an interest in developing within the energy infrastructure sector.
