About the role
Eclectic Recruitment is working with a technology business in Cambridge to recruit an NPI Engineer to support the introduction of new electro-mechanical products, from initial concept and prototype builds through to production ramp-up and ongoing manufacturing support.
This role will suit an experienced NPI or Manufacturing Engineer with a strong understanding of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA), electronics manufacturing and working with contract manufacturers. You will play a key role in ensuring new products can be manufactured efficiently, cost-effectively and to the required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the end-to-end NPI process, coordinating the transfer of new product developments into the supply chain and high-volume production.
- Develop and implement manufacturing equipment and processes, including surface-mount technology (SMT), PCB assembly and electro-mechanical assembly.
- Apply DFMA principles to product designs, ensuring they are suitable for manufacturing and assembly while meeting cost and quality requirements.
- Coordinate prototype builds, investigate manufacturing and assembly issues, and implement corrective actions to improve production yields.
- Work closely with contract manufacturers and internal teams to qualify processes, maintain manufacturing documentation and support products through production ramp-up.
Candidate Requirements:
- Proven experience in NPI, Manufacturing, Production or Process Engineering, ideally involving electro-mechanical products.
- Strong understanding of the full NPI lifecycle, from concept and prototype development through to production ramp-up.
- Experience working with electronics contract manufacturers, alongside a good understanding of SMT and electro-mechanical assembly processes.
- Knowledge of DFMA, Six Sigma, Statistical Process Control and production yield analysis.
- Relevant engineering or scientific qualifications, such as an HNC or degree, or equivalent experience, with strong project planning, coordination and problem-solving skills.
If you have a background in NPI or manufacturing engineering and enjoy working across product development, manufacturing processes and supplier relationships, we would welcome your application. This is an opportunity to apply your technical expertise across the full product lifecycle while supporting the successful introduction of new electro-mechanical products.
