VAT Consultant Location: Worcestershire Contract: Temporary (6 months initial) Salary: £500 per day umbrella / £439.94 PAYE Inclusive / £392.56 PAYE Exclusive Start Date: ASAP Contact: [email removed] Job Description Service Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a local authority in Worcestershire for a VAT Consultant to join the team on a temporary basis. The postholder will provide advice and support on all VAT matters, optimising VAT recovery, and supporting financial planning and reporting, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations. Key Responsibilities Provide specialist VAT advice, including on capital projects, property transactions, contracts, grants and funding arrangements Ensure compliance with HMRC VAT legislation and requirements, including preparation and review of accurate VAT returns. Manage and advise on partial exemption calculations, VAT recovery and Section 33 arrangements, identifying opportunities for savings and efficiencies. Monitor changes to VAT legislation and HMRC guidance, assessing their impact and providing clear advice to both finance and non-finance colleagues. Support HMRC enquiries, internal and external audits, while maintaining robust VAT records, policies, procedures and internal controls. Candidate Criteria Qualified accountant, with extensive local authority experience and knowledge of UK VAT legislation Effective communicator, able to liaise with HMRC and deal with enquiries, as well as leading and working as part of a team. Experience in systems such as TechnologyOne ERP system, as well as Microsoft Excel.
