About the role
Punch / Laser Operative (Primary Operations)
Pay Rate: £15.25 per hour (2-shift rate – advertised)
Initial Training Rate: £12.71 per hour (dayshift)
Contract: Temp to Perm
Shifts: 2 Shift Rotation (with flexibility for future 3 shifts)
Hours: 38.5 hours per week
Overview
We are currently recruiting for a skilled Punch / Laser Operative to join a busy primary operations team. This role will initially begin on a dayshift for induction before moving onto a 2-shift rotation.
The ideal candidate will have experience operating Trumpf punching machines, with additional experience in fibre or CO2 laser cutting (Trumpf or Bystronic) highly desirable. Key Responsibilities
- Setting and operating Trumpf punching machinery
- Operating fibre and/or CO2 laser cutting machines (training available if required)
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings (first and third angle projection)
- Working independently to complete jobs from start to finish
- Carrying out in-process inspections to the required standards and frequencies
- Performing machine setups and tool changes
- Ensuring all work meets quality and production targets
- Maintaining a safe working environment and adhering to health & safety procedures
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven experience operating Trumpf punch machines (essential)
- Experience with fibre lasers or CO2 lasers (desirable – Trumpf or Bystronic)
- Strong ability to read and understand engineering drawings
- Experience working in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
- Ability to work unsupervised and manage workload effectively
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Flexible approach to working patterns
Pay & Benefits
Production Staff:
- £15.25 per hour (2-shift rate, including shift premium)
- Overtime paid at:
- 1.5x (Monday–Saturday)
- 2.0x (Sunday)
- 23 days holiday plus bank holidays (paid hourly)

Working Hours
Dayshift (Induction):
- Monday – Thursday: 08:00 – 17:00
- Friday: 08:00 – 12:30
2 Shift Rotation (20% shift premium):
Early Shift:
- Monday – Thursday: 06:00 – 14:30
- Friday: 06:00 – 12:30
Back Shift:
- Monday – Thursday: 14:30 – 23:00
- Friday: 12:30 – 19:00
Potential 3 Shift Pattern (25% shift premium):
- Includes night shifts (Sunday–Thursday rotation)
