Westlakes Recruit are currently recruiting for an experienced Principal Civil & Structural Engineer to join a multidisciplinary engineering team supporting complex industrial projects.
This is a senior technical role with a strong focus on lifting engineering, structural design and technical assurance. The successful candidate will act as a Subject Matter Expert in lifting operations, providing technical leadership across projects and supporting the safe delivery of complex lifting activities.
Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across Civil & Structural and Lifting Engineering.
• Act as a Subject Matter Expert for lifting operations.
• Prepare, review and approve Lift Plans and Lifting Risk Assessments.
• Carry out structural steelwork design and analysis for lifting and permanent works.
• Design lifting lugs, trunnions, lifting beams and spreader beams.
• Assess lifting points and supporting steelwork for structural integrity.
• Calculate centres of gravity and determine appropriate lifting methodologies.
• Specify hoisting systems, including wire rope and winch arrangements.
• Support complex lifting activities including:
  • tailing operations
  • horizontal-to-vertical lifts
  • fleeting
  • cross-hauling
• Select appropriate lifting equipment and lifting accessories.
• Provide technical support and guidance on lifting engineering matters across the business.
• Ensure compliance with LOLER, PUWER, HASAWA and relevant British Standards.
• Support technical assurance activities, audits and incident investigations.
• Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams and key stakeholders.
• Mentor and develop engineers, supporting competency and succession planning.
• Deputise for the Lead Engineer when required.
• Perform the role of Technical Authority for Lifting where applicable.

Essential Experience

• Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering, or equivalent.
• Chartered Engineer status or recognised equivalent.
• Minimum 10 years’ relevant post-graduate or industry experience.
• Appointed Person qualification for Lifting Operations in accordance with BS 7121.
• Appointed Person – Moving Loads qualification.
• Extensive knowledge and application of LOLER and PUWER.
• Strong structural steelwork design and analysis experience.
• Detailed knowledge of Health & Safety at Work legislation.
• Experience preparing Lift Plans and Lifting Risk Assessments.
• Strong knowledge of British and other relevant lifting standards.
• Experience selecting lifting equipment and lifting accessor
