About the role
This post offers an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated registered nurse or midwife to undertake training to become a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) – School Nurse within NHS Forth Valley.
The successful candidate will undertake the Post Graduate Diploma in Health Visiting/School Nursing (Person-centred Practice) with Queen Margaret University (QMU), Edinburgh. The 52-week programme combines university and practice-based learning, with trainees supported in practice within NHS Forth Valley.
The post will be offered on a training basis under Annex 21 arrangements, with successful candidates progressing to a substantive Band 7 School Nurse SCPHN post following successful completion of the programme and achievement of the required SCPHN registration.
During training, the post holder will work alongside experienced School Nurses and the wider team, developing the knowledge and skills required to provide a safe, person-centred and effective service to school-aged children, young people and their families.
The trainee will develop experience in assessing health needs, health promotion, early intervention, safeguarding and partnership working, including working collaboratively with Education, Social Work and other health and partner agencies.
Applicants must be a registered nurse or midwife with current NMC registration and meet the academic entry requirements for the QMU programme. We are looking for candidates with effective communication skills, a commitment to professional development and a genuine interest in improving the health and wellbeing of children, young people and families.
Applicants are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the QMU programme and academic entry requirements prior to applying. Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a 1,500-word admissions essay as part of the selection process.
Due to the geographical area covered by the service, the ability and willingness to travel throughout the area of service delivery is essential.
