About the role
Mechanical Shift Engineer - Healthcare
Location: Enfield, North London
Salary: Up to £45,000 + potential £2,000 AP qualification allowance
Shift Pattern: 4 days on / 4 days off, 8am-8pm
Are you an experienced Mechanical Engineer looking to develop your skills within a healthcare environment? This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading FM service provider, working on a healthcare site where you can build your technical expertise and gain specialist qualifications in critical building services.
We're looking for a mechanically biased engineer with a strong plumbing background, solid maintenance experience and a proactive approach to fault-finding. Healthcare experience would be advantageous, but candidates from other commercial or industrial environments with the right technical ability are encouraged to apply.
The Role
You'll be responsible for maintaining and supporting essential mechanical building services, helping to ensure equipment and systems operate safely, efficiently and reliably within a healthcare setting.
Key responsibilities include:
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on mechanical building services.
- Diagnosing faults and completing repairs to minimise equipment downtime.
- Supporting the safe and efficient operation of plumbing, water and HVAC systems.
- Ensuring all work is completed in line with relevant health and safety requirements and site procedures.
- Maintaining accurate maintenance records and reporting any defects or remedial works.
- Participating in the site call-out rota, approximately one shift every four weeks.
- Working collaboratively with the wider engineering team to maintain high standards of service delivery.
What We're Looking For
- NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing or an equivalent relevant qualification as a minimum.
- Experience in mechanical maintenance, with a strong understanding of plumbing systems.
- Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- A safety-conscious approach and the ability to work independently.
- Strong communication skills and a professional attitude.
- Previous experience within a hospital or healthcare environment would be beneficial, although it is not essential.
Training and Career Development
One of the key benefits of this opportunity is the investment in your professional development.
For the right candidate, training will be provided in HTM 03 and HTM 04, covering healthcare ventilation and water systems in line with relevant healthcare technical standards.
This training can support your development towards becoming an Authorised Person (AP), subject to the required training, competency assessments and authorisation process. Upon successful completion of the relevant AP training and requirements, there is the potential to receive an additional £2,000 per annum, taking the overall package to £47,000.
Salary and Benefits
- Salary of up to £45,000, depending on experience and technical ability.
- Potential additional £2,000 per annum following successful completion of AP training and the required authorisation process.
- 4 days on / 4 days off shift pattern.
- Consistent 12-hour shifts, 8am-8pm.
- Specialist healthcare engineering training and development.
- Opportunity to build expertise in critical mechanical systems within a healthcare environment.
Interested?
If you're a qualified Mechanical Engineer with a strong plumbing background and want to take the next step in your career, we'd like to hear from you.
Candidates will be assessed on their practical technical knowledge and suitability for the role as part of the recruitment process. Salary will reflect experience and demonstrated ability, so engineers who can showcase strong technical skills may be considered for a higher starting salary.
