We are looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to support children with complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in a welcoming mainstream primary school in Barnsley, S70.

The RoleAs a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and wider school team to provide tailored support for pupils with complex SEND. You will help create a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment where every child is encouraged to thrive.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support to children with complex SEND.
• Supporting pupils with their learning, communication and social development.
• Helping children access classroom activities through personalised support and adapted resources.
• Promoting positive behaviour, emotional regulation and independence.
• Supporting pupils who may have sensory needs and require additional assistance throughout the school day.
• Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils, staff and families.
• Working collaboratively with teachers and other professionals to meet individual needs.
• Promoting inclusion, safeguarding and the wellbeing of every child.

The Ideal CandidateWe are looking for someone who is:

• Caring, patient, empathetic and resilient.
• Experienced in supporting children with SEND, ideally within a primary school setting.
• Confident supporting pupils with complex needs and varying levels of ability.
• Understanding of individual learning styles, sensory needs and communication differences.
• Able to remain calm and positive in challenging situations.
• A strong team player with excellent communication skills.
• Passionate about helping every child achieve their potential.

Experience supporting children with autism, ADHD, communication difficulties or other complex needs would be highly beneficial.
