We are seeking a Finance Officer to join our friendly and supportive team on a temporary basis whilst our School Business Manager takes maternity leave.
You may currently be working as an Office Manager, Finance Officer or School Business Manager in a maintained school and be looking for the opportunity to experience a large primary school setting. Equally, you may have strong experience in business, finance, operations, administration or management and be seeking a rewarding role where no two days are the same.
You will play a key role in ensuring the school runs smoothly behind the scenes so that staff can focus on teaching, and pupils on learning. You will work closely and provide support to the Headteacher, Assistant Headteachers and Governors, whilst also managing the day-to-day needs of our school.
One moment you may be monitoring budgets, processing orders, and the next you could be supporting a recruitment process, processing HR paperwork, or helping parents and staff with queries. Flexibility, organisation and a sense of humour are essential.
We are a school with a strong team ethos. Staff support one another, celebrate successes together and are committed to providing the very best outcomes for our children. If you enjoy building positive relationships, solving problems, managing competing priorities and being at the heart of a busy school community, this could be the role for you.
What the role includes:
- Leading on all financial matters, including day to day ordering and processing invoices
- Monitoring and maintaining a balanced, realistic and sustainable budget and planning accordingly
- Liaising with the local authority regarding HR matters, including recruitment contracts, payroll queries and staffing changes
- Providing operational and logistical support to the Headteacher and wider leadership team across all aspects of school life
- Acting as a key point of contact for parents, staff, pupils, visitors and contractors
- Attending and contributing to Finance and Premises Committee meetings, preparing information and supporting Governors
- Liaising with contractors regarding work being carried out
- Managing and reviewing the school's subscriptions, contracts and service level agreements to ensure compliance and value for money
- Supporting the effective running of the school office and assisting with administrative duties as required
- Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of a large and busy primary school
What we’re looking for:
- Experience of financial management, ideally in a local authority maintained school
- Confidence in working independently whilst also being part of a wider team
- Good ICT skills, including Microsoft Office, Bromcom and Google Drive
