Pay Rate: £15.56 per hour | £19.45 per hour for overtime and Sundays
Assignment Length: Temporary (8 weeks)
Starting 26.10.2026 and expected to run until 20.12.2026
Hours: 37 hours per week

Pertemps are recruiting on behalf of Plymouth City Council for an HGV Driver to support commercial waste collections and bulky waste services across Plymouth. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dedicated environmental services team committed to keeping the city clean, safe and sustainable.
The role involves driving a range of vehicles from 7.5T to 26T and requires a physically fit individual who is comfortable assisting with the loading and unloading of bulky waste items when required.

The role involves driving a range of vehicles from 7.5T to 26T and requires a physically fit individual who is comfortable assisting with the loading and unloading of bulky waste items when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a range of waste collection vehicles, including 7.5T and 26T vehicles.
- Complete commercial waste and bulky waste collections throughout Plymouth.
- Load, transport and dispose of waste materials in line with environmental legislation and company procedures.
- Carry out daily vehicle inspections and promptly report any defects.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with driving regulations.
- Adhere to Driver CPC requirements, Working Time Directive regulations and Operator Licence standards.
- Deliver excellent customer service when interacting with businesses and members of the public.
- Support Plymouth City Council's environmental and sustainability objectives.
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- A valid HGV/LGV driving licence relevant to the vehicle category operated
- A current Driver CPC qualification & valid Digital Tachograph Card
- No more than 6 penalty points on your licence
- A good understanding of driving regulations and working time rules
- A strong commitment to health and safety standards
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- A reliable and flexible approach to work
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- A willingness to work in a physically demanding environment
- Competitive pay rate of £15.56 per hour
