About the role

Primary Teaching Assistant - Near Ely & Surrounding Areas

Are you a patient, proactive, and enthusiastic individual passionate about supporting children's learning and development in primary schools? Whether you are seeking the total freedom and flexibility of day-to-day cover, or looking for the rewarding continuity and connection of a long-term role, we have fantastic opportunities tailored to your availability.

We are currently partnering with a welcoming network of primary schools and academies near Ely and across the surrounding East Cambridgeshire area. We are experiencing high demand for reliable Teaching Assistants to support pupils across Early Years (EYFS), Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2.

Whether you have previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, a background in childcare, youth work, or sports coaching, or are a graduate aiming to build classroom experience towards a teaching career, we can help you find your ideal setup.

Choose Your Ideal Way of Working:
  • Day-to-Day Cover: Enjoy complete control over your working week with total flexibility. Choose the exact days you want to work to perfectly balance your personal commitments, studies, or family life while gaining varied experience across local primary schools.

  • Long-Term Opportunities: For those seeking routine and the chance to build ongoing, supportive relationships with pupils and school teams, we offer fixed-term placements spanning a term or a full academic year. These roles allow you to closely follow student progress and become an integral part of a school community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide high-quality 1:1, small group, or whole-class support to pupils across EYFS, Key Stage 1, or Key Stage 2, helping raise attainment in reading, writing, and mathematics.

  • Assist class teachers in preparing resources, managing classroom environments, and executing engaging, inclusive learning activities.

  • Support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping keep children focused, regulated, and confident in their learning tasks.

  • Promote positive behaviour using supportive strategies aligned with individual school policies.

  • Assist with outdoor learning, continuous provision, and playground supervision during break times.

  • Maintain clear communication with class teachers regarding pupil engagement, achievements, and any areas requiring additional focus.

What We Look For:
  • Previous experience working with primary-aged children (in schools, early years settings, youth groups, or care environments).

  • A patient, warm, and approachable personality with a proactive approach to supporting classroom activities.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build quick, positive rapport with staff and young learners.

  • Basic understanding of primary literacy and numeracy techniques (experience with phonics programmes is a bonus).

  • A valid Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to apply for one).

Benefits of Working With Us:
  • Competitive daily rates of pay, processed weekly and reflective of your experience level.

  • A dedicated local consultant with deep knowledge of the primary education sector near Ely and East Cambridgeshire.

  • Complete flexibility to set and update your availability on your own terms.

  • Direct networking opportunities with top local primary provisions, frequently leading to direct contract and permanent offers.
