About the role

Are you an experienced Facilities professional with a passion for creating safe, effective and welcoming environments?

We are looking for a Facilities Manager to help shape and maintain our estate, supporting the delivery of vital services for children, young people and families across Birmingham. 

Reporting to the Senior Facilities Manager, this is a key role within our Property and Facilities team, responsible for ensuring that our buildings remain safe, compliant, well-maintained and fit for purpose. You will lead on planned and reactive maintenance programmes, manage contractors and suppliers, oversee compliance obligations, and support the delivery of property improvement projects across multiple sites.

No two days will be the same. You will oversee planned and reactive maintenance, coordinate emergency repairs, manage facilities budgets, monitor contractor performance and support the delivery of small capital works projects. You will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and Trust policies relating to health, safety and welfare.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, building strong working relationships and driving continuous improvement. You will be trusted to identify opportunities to improve services, enhance the working environment for colleagues and help deliver an estate that supports excellent outcomes for children, young people and families. 

We have been rated as 'Good' by Ofsted, following a 2023 inspection. This is a fantastic achievement for Birmingham Children's Trust, with many positive highlights focusing on areas including the quality of staff leadership, partnership working, safeguarding and corporate parenting. 

This is a hybrid role based in Birmingham, with regular travel required across Trust sites. You must have the correct right-to-work documents to work in the UK. Sadly, we do not support those who require sponsorship. 

About you: 

We are looking for a motivated and experienced facilities or property professional who can successfully manage multiple priorities whilst maintaining high standards of service delivery.

Essential requirements:

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline, or able to demonstrate substantial equivalent experience in a similar role.
  • Membership of RICS, CIOB or IWFM (formerly BIFM), or working towards professional membership.
  • Proven experience delivering maintenance plans and property improvement projects across a diverse estate.
  • Experience managing planned and emergency maintenance works across multiple sites.
  • Experience managing contractors and suppliers against contractual KPIs and service standards.
  • Strong understanding of property legislation, regulations and codes of practice.
  • Experience monitoring budgets and balancing competing priorities within financial constraints.
  • Experience identifying, managing and mitigating health and safety risks in operational environments.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and activities simultaneously, with effective risk and issue management.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with experience building relationships at all levels.
  • Strong organisational, planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills as you'll be required to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet challenging deadlines.
