Contract – Mechanical Design Engineer – Powertrain

Advanced Marine Propulsion | Outside IR35 | Coventry

Want to help develop the next generation of high-performance marine propulsion systems?

This is an opportunity to join an engineering-led business developing innovative outboard engines and powertrain technologies that are redefining performance, efficiency and reliability within the marine sector.

We’re looking for experienced Mechanical Design Engineers to support the development of complex powertrain systems through to production. This is far more than a CAD modelling role. You’ll be involved in solving challenging engineering problems, developing robust mechanical solutions and working cross functionally to bring innovative products to market.

What You’ll Be Doing as Mechanical Design Engineer Powertrain

• Designing and developing mechanical components and assemblies for advanced powertrain systems
• Creating 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings using NX
• Supporting concept generation, design reviews, validation and product release activities
• Performing engineering calculations and analysis to support design decisions
• Working closely with manufacturing, test and development teams to resolve technical challenges
• Ensuring designs meet performance, reliability and manufacturability requirements
• Contributing to the continuous improvement of existing and future products

What We’re Looking For

• Degree qualified Mechanical Engineer or equivalent experience
• Strong product development background within complex mechanical systems
• Experience designing powertrain, drivetrain, transmission, hydraulic or similar mechanical systems
• Proficiency in CAD, ideally Siemens NX
• Strong understanding of GD&T and tolerance stack analysis
• Practical engineering mindset with excellent problem-solving skills
• Ability to work effectively within cross-functional engineering teams
