Job Description

We are recruiting for an experienced Site Manager to join a leading utilities contractor delivering water rehabilitation projects across the United Utilities network.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Site Manager with a proven background in the water utilities sector. Candidates must have previous water industry experience, ideally in clean water, water mains rehabilitation, leakage, or utility infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will oversee multiple work sites, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. You will lead operational teams, manage subcontractors, maintain excellent client relationships, and ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental requirements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day delivery of water rehabilitation projects across multiple sites.
• Lead and supervise site teams, direct labour, and subcontractors to ensure works are completed safely and efficiently.
• Plan labour, plant, materials, and resources to meet programme requirements.
• Carry out regular site inspections, audits, and quality checks to ensure compliance with client and company standards.
• Ensure all Health & Safety documentation, including RAMS, CPPs, permits, and site files, is completed and maintained.
• Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings, and promote a positive health and safety culture.
• Monitor productivity, programme performance, and contract KPIs.
• Liaise with clients, local authorities, customers, and third-party stakeholders throughout project delivery.
• Identify operational risks and resolve issues quickly to minimise disruption.
• Investigate incidents and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
• Coach, mentor, and develop site teams to achieve high performance.

Required Qualifications

• SMSTS or SSSTS (essential).
• NRSWA Streetworks Supervisor (essential).
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Education

• NVQ Level 6 in Construction Site Management or equivalent is desirable.
• Relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Utilities is advantageous.

Experience

• Candidates must have previous experience managing water utility or water rehabilitation projects.
• Strong background within the water industry is essential.
• Experience delivering clean water, water mains, leakage, or utility infrastructure works.
• Proven experience supervising direct labour and subcontractors.
• Experience delivering projects safely, on programme, and within budget.
• Experience working on live utility networks, preferably within United Utilities or other UK water frameworks.

Knowledge and Skills

• Excellent knowledge of water utility operations and rehabilitation projects.
• Strong understanding of Streetworks legislation (NRSWA).
• Excellent knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and best practice.
• Strong leadership and people management skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Ability to plan, organise, and prioritise multiple work sites.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Competent using Microsoft Office and site reporting systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Temporary Works Supervisor.
• National Water Hygiene (Blue Card).
• Deep Excavation Training.
• CDM Awareness.
• Asbestos Awareness.

Working Conditions

• Site-based role covering water rehabilitation projects across the United Utilities network.
• Regular travel throughout the North West is required.
• Company vehicle provided.
• Work involves outdoor environments and live utility sites.
• PPE must be worn at all times.
• Occasional flexibility in working hours may be required to meet operational requirements.
