Principal Engineer - Support Engineering - Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM)

Contract: 12 months

Working Pattern: 37 hours per week | 2–3 days onsite per week
Rate: £53.73 per hour PAYE - £72.54 per hour Umbrella

Role Description

• The individual will be the primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the delivery and assurance of Maintenance Derivation and Logistic Support Analysis (LSA) outputs.
• The individual will have a clear and demonstrable understanding of the relevant Ministry of Defence (MoD), industry and corporate standards that cover Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) activities, which they will apply.
• The individual should have a comprehensive understanding of the definition, application and control of ILS management activities and they will be confident interfacing with internal stakeholders, suppliers and customers.
  • The individual will provide guidance to the Support and Product Engineering Managers as required to ensure

the effective delivery of ILS outputs of the support solution to the Customer

Core Duties

• The Principal Engineer – Support Engineering (Reliability Centred Maintenance) will be responsible for, or provide input to, the following Additional Accountabilities dependent on their role:
• When working in a Software Support role:Using BAE Systems processes, analyse software (programmable element) products (COTS, Bespoke, Modified COTS) at system and equipment levels and derive software support strategies per system.
• Contribute towards system level software support case reports.
• Reviewing of external supplier engineering deliverables relating to software.
• Review software source documentation, interpret technical information and derive written recommendations on how best to support the software product through life via the production of system level software support case reports.
• Provide software support SME advice to the wider ILS community, and support mapping activity between the
• BAE software analysis outputs and other key ILS stakeholders and their support outputs.
• Production of management and process documentation relevant to software

Knowledge and skills

• Extensive level of domain knowledge over the full range of RCM activities and how they relate to ILS and Safety.
• Extensive knowledge of the MoD Unit Maintenance Management System (UMMS) and Trilogy tool sets.
• Knowledge of the principles of Availability, Reliability & Maintainability (AR&M).
• Knowledge of the complete engineering lifecycle and how support activities align to it, with some experience of operating in a number of lifecycle phases.
• Have a strong awareness of Product Safety and SHE.
• Good communication skills and be able to interact with stakeholders.
• Background as Submarine nuclear operator / maintainer essential.
• The ability to analyse complex problems.
• Understanding of JSP 935, DefStan 00-055, IEC 61508, DLF SSE GP.2.11 desirable
