I’m currently working with a leading technology organisation who are looking for an experienced Database Administrator to join their team.

This is a great opportunity for either a PostgreSQL DBA with strong Oracle experience, or an Oracle DBA with recent and meaningful PostgreSQL DBA experience.

You will need strong hands-on experience across both technologies, with the ability to confidently talk through your experience during a technical interview.

THE ROLE

You’ll take ownership of the application database environment across multiple cloud and on-premise environments, working closely with developers, data pipeline engineers, data scientists and infrastructure teams.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing PostgreSQL database clusters across multiple environments

• Monitoring, tuning and optimising PostgreSQL database performance

• Hands-on administration and maintenance of Oracle 19c or 21c

• Managing data migrations between database instances, including offline environments

• Owning data models and the lifecycle of data within the database

• Designing, creating and managing schemas, tables and views

• Performance optimisation including index tuning, execution plan analysis, query optimisation and partitioning

• Managing database clusters and failover strategies

• Defining and implementing backup and recovery strategies

• Managing database security, roles, permissions and RLS controls

• Working with infrastructure teams on database installation and patching

• Working with data pipeline engineers and data scientists to ingest a wide range of data sources

• Applying best practices for storing JSON objects within PostgreSQL

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• Strong hands-on DBA experience across PostgreSQL and Oracle

• Recent and meaningful PostgreSQL DBA experience – this must go beyond basic exposure, installation or support-level knowledge

• Strong hands-on experience with Oracle 19c or 21c

• Experience with PostgreSQL performance optimisation, including index tuning, execution plan analysis, query optimisation, sharding and partitioning

• Experience managing database clusters and failover

• Strong data modelling experience

• Experience working closely with development and infrastructure teams

• Experience with PostgreSQL extensions such as pgvector, PostGIS or AGE would be beneficial

• Additional MSSQL experience would be useful

• Single British Nationality

• SC clearance as a minimum, with DV targeted

• Ability to meet the required UK residency criteria for security clearance
