About the role
A unique opportunity to teach small groups and to make a difference
Full-time or Part-time Mathematics Teacher
MPS/UPS + SEN 1
Start date: January 2027 or before
Would you like more time to build relationships with your students, have smaller teaching groups or teach 1-1, but still be able to teach students with the potential to achieve high grades at GCSE? Due to expansion, we have a vacancy for an experienced and enthusiastic Maths teacher.
We can offer you the opportunity to focus on a small number of students, most of whom have an Education Health Care Plan for Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs and transform their experience of education. We understand that there may be some apprehension about teaching in an alternative provision, and we would encourage you to explore our website. This will give you an insight into our students, their views, and the difference you could make to them. You would also be supported by a formal induction process and training opportunities.
This post is likely to be based at our Hampton Hill site in Teddington and/or 6 Oaks (sixth form) site in Ham, teaching maths to students aged 11-16 or 16-19. Most students will be studying Functional Skills (Entry Level, Level 1 or Level 2) or GCSE Maths. There could be opportunities to teach AS or A Level Maths for a suitable candidate.
In addition to teaching on-site, we deliver 1:1 tuition in home or community settings for students who cannot access on-site learning. All our staff work flexibly, so there may be opportunities to teach at other Malden Oaks sites and/or to teach additional/alternative subjects. All subject teachers also work as form tutors, taking pastoral responsibility for students.
Despite our small size, we are committed to offering a broad and balanced curriculum, which currently includes 19 subjects, to give students a wide choice and help them develop their interests. Alongside the formal taught curriculum, students are encouraged to develop in other areas through our DofE activity programme. Supporting our students in developing positive relationships, self-confidence, resilience, and creativity is crucial to our ethos and is measured not only by academic results but also by the views of our past and present students.
Please visit our website for further information, and should you have any queries, please contact our Deputy Headteacher, Nick Smith.
Visits to the school are welcome.
Malden Oaks is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. All new staff will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check and carry out safeguarding training. Please read our full safeguarding policy, which can be downloaded from our website.
Your application should summarise how you meet the requirements of the attached person specification and how your skills and experience would enable you to fulfil the attached job description.
As part of our recruitment process, we may carry out social media checks on shortlisted candidates. These checks are conducted to support our commitment to safeguarding and maintaining a safe and professional working environment
Should you be interested in joining our team please send your application along with the Equality and Diversity form.
