Teaching Assistant - Year 4

Grade: Teaching Assistant Scale (depending on experience)
Hours: 26.25 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (term time only)

We are seeking a caring, committed and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated support to pupils in Year 4.

The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher and SENDCo to support both pupils' learning, social development and wellbeing throughout the school day. They will help the children access the curriculum, promote independence and contribute positively to their educational experience.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

• Provide individual support for two named pupils in Year 4.
• Support both pupils to access learning activities and the wider curriculum.
• Adapt and reinforce teacher-directed learning activities as appropriate.
• Encourage the development of independence, confidence and resilience.
• Promote positive behaviour and support the implementation of agreed strategies.
• Assist with the pupils' social, emotional and communication needs.
• Monitor and record progress, providing feedback to the class teacher and SENDCo.
• Work collaboratively with teaching staff, support staff and external professionals where appropriate.
• Support the pupils during transitions, breaktimes, educational visits and other school activities as required.
• Contribute to maintaining a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.
• Develop positive, trusting relationships with both pupils while recognising and responding to their individual needs.

The ideal candidate will:

• Have experience of working with primary-aged children.
• Demonstrate patience, empathy and a nurturing approach.
• Have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Be able to work effectively as part of a team.
• Be committed to inclusive practice and supporting children with additional needs.
• Show initiative, flexibility and a willingness to learn.
• Be able to respond sensitively to the individual needs of different pupils.

Contract Information

This post is offered on a fixed-term basis and is linked to the support requirements of two specific children. The contract will continue for as long as the named children remain on roll at the school and require the allocated support. The contract will therefore end when the children leave the school or when the support is no longer required.
