About the role
Your new company
We are seeking an experienced SSIS Developer / SQL Server Data Integration Specialist to modernise and enhance our existing data integration platform.The successful contractor will review, upgrade, and refactor three existing SSIS packages currently developed in SQL Server 2013 / Visual Studio 2013, migrating them to a supported platform (SQL Server 2022 / Visual Studio 2022) while improving automation, maintainability, and future scalability.This is a fixed-term contract assignment with a focus on delivering a fully operational and scheduled ETL solution.
Your new role
You will review and modernise the existing SSIS packages, which currently handle file ingestion, SQL Server-to-SQL Server data transfers and data extraction from a Progress database.Key responsibilities will include:
- Assessing and upgrading existing SSIS packages to SQL Server 2022 / Visual Studio 2022
- Refactoring packages where required to improve performance and maintainability
- Replacing an existing Progress database integration with a new text-file-based ingestion process
- Maintaining existing SQL Server destination structures and outputs
- Configuring unattended execution using SQL Server Agent
- Implementing appropriate logging, error handling, monitoring and notifications
- Ensuring the solution can be easily extended to accommodate new source files, tables, transformations and mapping requirements
- Producing clear technical documentation and providing knowledge transfer at the end of the assignment
What you'll need to succeed
You will be an experienced SQL Server / ETL professional with strong hands-on expertise in:
- SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
- Microsoft SQL Server
- T-SQL
- ETL design, development and implementation
- Upgrading legacy SSIS solutions to newer SQL Server environments
- SQL query development and performance optimisation
- Data validation, reconciliation and exception handling
- SQL Server Agent scheduling and automated ETL processes
- Troubleshooting and supporting data transformation processes
You should be comfortable working independently, understanding an existing environment quickly and translating business requirements into practical technical solutions.Experience with Progress databases, file-based ETL integrations, source control and designing scalable SSIS frameworks would be advantageous.
