Platform/DevOps Engineer (Contract, Outside IR35)
Engagement: 6-month fixed-term project | Location: Hybrid, London as needed for workshops.

BigHand is looking for an experienced Platform/DevOps consultancy or contractor to deliver a defined programme of cloud platform work. The engagement covers the migration of on-premises services to a multi-region, highly available Azure environment, along with the automation, security and observability tooling needed to support it.

You’ll work to an agreed statement of work with clear deliverables and milestones. BigHand will provide the context, access and input needed to define requirements and review deliverables.

• Azure landing zone and migration: Design and deliver an Azure landing zone, and migrate agreed on-premises services to a multi-region, highly available Azure platform (PaaS and IaaS), including containerised workloads on Azure Kubernetes Service and Docker.

• DevSecOps implementation: Embed security controls and testing across the build and release pipelines for the services in scope, with documented security standards for handover.

• Infrastructure as code and automation: Extend and harden the existing Terraform and PowerShell module library. Automate the manual build, release and operational processes identified in the statement of work, and provide reusable templates.

• Monitoring and reporting: Deliver monitoring, dashboards, and usage and uptime reporting for the migrated platforms, so issues and risks can be identified quickly.

• Operational readiness and handover: Produce operational runbooks, incident response guidance and security documentation, and run knowledge-transfer sessions so BigHand’s internal teams can operate the platform independently.

• Recommendations: Provide a written assessment of further opportunities to improve tooling, processes and cloud costs.
  

What we’re looking for

• A proven track record delivering Azure migrations and landing zones for other clients.

• Strong hands-on expertise in Terraform, PowerShell, AKS and Docker.

• Experience implementing DevSecOps practices and CI/CD pipeline security.

• Experience designing monitoring and observability for production cloud platforms.

• The ability to scope, plan and deliver work independently against agreed outcomes.
