Our client designs and manufactures hi-tech capital equipment for worldwide export with a head office in the UK and two overseas offices. A vacancy has arisen for a PLC Software Engineer to take responsibility for the design, development and maintenance of the software and control systems for existing and future software projects including writing of all documentation relating to these software projects.
- Carry out analysis of PLC requirements according to product definition and specific customer needs as required, working with product development and production teams.
- Design and development of software code (ladder logic) to meet specified requirements using the software language(s) most appropriate to the system.
- Support field installations on site around the world as required.
- Participate in investigations into system problems which may arise at any stage from design, coding and testing through to acceptance and on-going use of the products.
- Propose, define and implement solutions to problems including bug-fixing and system modification and/or enhancement so as to prevent as far as possible recurrence of problems.
The ideal candidate will have:
- The successful candidate will be educated to HND / Degree level preferably in Computer Science or Mathematics.
- Highly experienced in programming PLCs on highly automated machines
- A solid background in PLC software development of at least 5 years or more ideally across several different PLC manufacturers.
- Proficient in VB.Net in an engineering environment
- Experience of, or an interest in, machine / motion control software and hardware interaction.
- In terms of skills and background experience, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate practical experience working with special purpose machinery, ideally within an industrial or manufacturing environment. This should include involvement in the design, development, installation, commissioning and validation of bespoke machinery or automated equipment.
