A place to inspire
Being part of Nottingham College means playing a vital part in helping thousands of people reach their potential. Together, we’re making a positive difference to our learners, to our communities and to each other. We’re building better futures, for others and for ourselves. Here, you’ll have the freedom to work in a way that suits you, the support to thrive and the opportunity to shape your career.
About you
We’re looking for friendly, approachable people to join our college community as Security Officers — helping create a safe, welcoming environment where students, staff, and visitors feel supported every day. If you have a welcoming smile, enjoy working with people, and take pride in delivering high customer service standards, this could be the perfect role for you. No previous security experience is required — we can teach you the technical side of the role. What matters most is your attitude, professionalism, and ability to connect with people. With a flexible working environment and a supportive team around you, no two days are ever the same.
You will bring: · Excellent interpersonal and communication skills · A calm, confident, and professional manner · The ability to build trust and positive rapport with young people and adults · Good observational skills and the ability to stay composed under pressure · A proactive, problem-solving approach · High customer service standards and a friendly, approachable attitude · Experience in a customer-facing, community-focused or security role (desirable) · A commitment to safeguarding, inclusivity and supporting a positive student experience
About the Role
Our Security Officers are the first point of contact for many people arriving on campus. This is a customer-facing role focused on positive engagement, visibility, and support.
You will be a reassuring presence across our sites, helping to maintain a calm and secure atmosphere where students and staff can learn and work confidently. You will proactively meet and greet, offer guidance, provide signposting to services, and build constructive relationships with the campus community.
At the same time, you will remain vigilant and observant, able to identify unusual behaviour, respond appropriately to emerging issues, and act swiftly and professionally during any security incident or emergency.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide a warm, friendly welcome to students, staff and visitors entering the building.
· Assist with wayfinding and signposting, helping customers access the services they need.
· Maintain a visible and reassuring presence around campus, contributing to a positive environment.
· Monitor activity across College premises, remaining alert to risks, hazards, or safeguarding concerns.
· Respond promptly and proportionately to security incidents, using sound judgement and College procedures.
· Assist in building evacuations, lockdowns, or emergency situations when required.
· Work collaboratively with Estates, Student Services, teaching teams and external partners.
· Complete incident reports and maintain accurate, timely records.
