About the role
Location: North Leicester
Salary: £50,000-£55,000 per annum
Reporting to: Head of Finance
Macildowie are working with a well-established business based in North Leicester to recruit a Finance Manager. Although operating as an SME in the UK, the business forms part of a larger international group, offering an interesting blend of hands-on SME finance and exposure to international reporting requirements.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious accountant looking to broaden their experience, take on greater responsibility and develop the technical and commercial skills that would lend themselves well to a future Financial Controller position.
Reporting directly to the Head of Finance and working closely with the Managing Director, you will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the finance function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong financial controls and providing meaningful financial information to support business decisions.
The role would be particularly well suited to a first or second-time mover from practice looking to gain broader commercial exposure, or somebody already working in industry who has developed a well-rounded accounting skillset and is ready for a new challenge.
Key ResponsibilitiesPreparation of monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and supporting commentary.
Preparation of statutory accounts under UK GAAP, alongside financial reporting in accordance with IFRS requirements for the international parent company.
Coordination of the year-end audit process, acting as a key point of contact for external auditors.
Preparation of annual budgets, forecasts and financial projections.
Production and monitoring of cash flow forecasts, supporting effective cash management across the business.
Completion and review of balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and integrity of financial information.
Preparation and submission of VAT returns, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
Supporting group reporting requirements, ensuring accurate and timely submission of financial information to the international parent company.
Working closely with the Head of Finance and Managing Director, providing financial analysis and commercial insight to support business decisions.
Maintaining and improving financial controls, processes and reporting procedures.
Identifying opportunities to streamline existing processes, improve efficiencies and introduce better ways of working.
Supporting the wider business with ad hoc financial projects and commercial analysis.
We are looking for somebody who is technically strong, commercially minded and keen to continue developing their experience within an SME environment.
Ideally, you will have:
An ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification, or be approaching full qualification.
A background in accountancy practice, ideally with exposure to accounts preparation and audit, or experience in a broad finance role within industry.
A strong understanding of UK GAAP, with exposure to IFRS reporting being advantageous.
A good understanding of management accounts, statutory reporting, budgeting, forecasting and financial controls.
Strong Excel skills and confidence working with accounting systems.
A hands-on approach, with the ability to get involved in both the detail and the bigger picture.
Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work closely with senior stakeholders.
A proactive mindset, with an interest in improving processes and adding value beyond traditional financial reporting.
This is a great opportunity for somebody looking to gain broad financial experience within an SME environment, whilst also benefiting from the additional complexity and exposure that comes with being part of an international group.
Working closely with an experienced Head of Finance and the Managing Director, you will gain valuable exposure to both technical accounting and the commercial side of running a business.
The combination of UK GAAP, IFRS, statutory reporting, management accounting and commercial finance makes this a particularly attractive opportunity for somebody looking to develop a well-rounded skillset.
For somebody coming from practice, this offers an excellent introduction to industry, whilst those already working in industry will have the opportunity to further develop their technical and commercial experience.
The breadth of the role and exposure to senior leadership would provide an excellent foundation for somebody with longer-term ambitions of becoming a Financial Controller.
If you're looking for a varied, hands-on Finance Manager role where you can continue to learn, develop and make a genuine impact, we'd be keen to hear from you.
