About the role

Complex Needs Post-16 Support Worker - Near Swaffham Bulbeck (Day-to-Day & Long-Term Opportunities)

Are you an experienced SEN support professional skilled in complex physical health care, dedicated to empowering young adults with profound needs to lead fulfilling, independent lives?

We are currently partnering with a warm, forward-thinking specialist SEN provision near Swaffham Bulbeck to recruit a compassionate Complex Needs Post-16 Support Worker for flexible day-to-day supply as well as long-term placements.

In this crucial post-16 support role, you will work with young adults (aged 16-19+) with severe, profound, and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), complex health profiles, and physical access needs. Working closely with specialist tutors, nurses, and therapy teams, you will deliver essential daily healthcare support-including PEG feeding and comprehensive personal care-while facilitating access to life-skills training and transitional education in a safe, dignified, and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Specialist Health & Medical Support: Safely manage and administer daily PEG feeding (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy) routines and gastrostomy care in strict accordance with individual health and care plans.

  • Dignified Personal Care: Provide sensitive, high-quality assistance with personal hygiene, changing, moving and handling (using hoists and specialist equipment), and personal comfort, maintaining student privacy and dignity at all times.

  • Life Skills & Practical Learning: Support students through sensory-rich, practical life-skills programmes, functional learning, and community access activities tailored to their individual Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets.

  • Therapy Integration: Assist Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and Speech & Language Therapists by carrying out daily movement, posture, and communication exercises.

  • Communication Support: Use alternative communication frameworks (such as visual schedules, switches, PECS, and eye-gaze systems) to promote student choice, independence, and engagement.

  • Observation & Care Records: Maintain clear, accurate records regarding nutrition, daily health checks, personal care routines, and learning progress.

Candidate Criteria & Requirements:
  • Essential Experience: Proven, hands-on experience in PEG feeding administration and personal care / manual handling within a special school, post-16 provision, healthcare, or residential care setting.

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care, Supporting Teaching & Learning, or Clinical Skills) are highly desirable.

  • Valid Moving & Handling training (or willingness to complete refresher training).

  • A patient, warm, and highly empathetic approach with a passion for supporting young adults with complex physical and educational needs.

  • A valid driver's licence is advantageous due to the rural location and off-site community visits.

  • A valid Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to complete one).

What We Offer:
  • Flexible Work & Long-Term Security: Choose between flexible day-to-day supply shifts or secure a structured, long-term placement.

  • Competitive Pay: Paid weekly at competitive daily rates reflective of your specialist clinical and complex care skills.

  • Continuous CPD & Training: Access to specialist training updates in complex care, moving & handling, and safeguarding.

  • Dedicated Recruitment Support: Guidance and regular local placements through your dedicated consultant at Randstad Education.
