About the role

A leading engineering and innovation consultancy is seeking a Lead Radar Systems Engineer to provide technical leadership across a growing radar capability. This is an opportunity to combine hands-on engineering expertise with strategic influence, helping to shape cutting-edge radar solutions while supporting the development of people, technology and future business opportunities.

The Opportunity

As a Lead Radar Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in the definition and delivery of advanced radar and RF systems, working from initial concept through to demonstration and deployment.

Working within multidisciplinary teams spanning RF, electronics, software, signal processing and systems engineering, you will help solve technically complex challenges for customers across a variety of applications. You will also contribute to capability development, technology strategy and mentoring activities, helping to strengthen an already established radar engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Lead the development of advanced radar and RF systems.
  • Define and assess RF architectures against customer requirements.
  • Make informed system-level trade-off decisions across performance, cost, risk and implementation complexity.
  • Provide technical direction to multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Support the development and growth of radar and RF capabilities.

Radar Systems Engineering

  • Develop radar requirements, performance models and system architectures.
  • Conduct system-level analysis and architecture assessments.
  • Evaluate performance trade-offs including detection range, sensitivity, resolution and clutter performance.
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to customers and stakeholders.
  • Support technical planning, project scoping and proposal development.
  • Present complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to a range of audiences.
  • Identify opportunities arising from customer challenges and emerging technologies.

Capability Development

  • Support and mentor engineers across radar, RF and systems disciplines.
  • Contribute to technology roadmaps and research activities.
  • Assist with recruitment and technical development initiatives.
  • Help maintain and enhance the organisation's reputation for delivering innovative radar and RF solutions.

What We're Looking For

We're interested in speaking with engineers who have significant experience (typically 10+ years) in the development of customised radar systems and who can demonstrate expertise across a number of the following areas:

Radar Systems

  • Pulse radar systems
  • FMCW radar systems
  • SAR and radar imaging systems
  • Radar performance modelling and analysis
  • Radar architecture development
  • Antenna integration and system design

RF Systems

  • Radio propagation
  • RF link budget and level planning
  • Frequency synthesiser design
  • RF transceiver architecture

RF Hardware

  • RF and microwave circuit design
  • Distributed microwave techniques
  • Millimetre-wave systems
  • High-performance frequency synthesisers
  • Analogue electronics for RF applications

Systems Engineering

  • Requirements capture and analysis
  • Verification and validation planning
  • Technical leadership of multidisciplinary teams
  • Project scoping and technical definition
  • Technology and capability development

You'll Likely Be Someone Who

  • Enjoys solving complex engineering problems.
  • Has developed a strong reputation within radar and RF engineering.
  • Communicates effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Is comfortable working autonomously while collaborating across teams.
  • Enjoys supporting and developing colleagues.
  • Has an interest in helping shape future technologies and engineering capabilities.
  • Brings both technical depth and commercial awareness to customer-facing activities.

What's on Offer?

  • The opportunity to work on technically challenging and meaningful projects.
  • A collaborative environment with highly skilled engineering teams.
  • Influence over future technology development and capability growth.
  • Ongoing professional development and career progression opportunities.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Flexible and supportive working practices.
  • Modern facilities located just south of Cambridge with excellent transport links.

Security Requirements

Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain UK Security Clearance (SC) and UK Eyes Only (UKEO) clearance.

We welcome applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences. If you meet many, but not all, of the listed requirements, we'd still encourage you to apply.
