The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Consultant Ophthalmologist to support a service in the South West.

This opportunity offers a locum contract within a busy ophthalmology department, providing a mix of outpatient clinics, theatre sessions and consultant on-call responsibilities. It is well suited to highly experienced consultants with expertise in Corneal Ophthalmology, General Ophthalmology and Cataract Surgery, who are confident making senior clinical decisions and delivering high-quality patient care.

You will be working alongside established clinical teams, supporting day-to-day service delivery and contributing to safe, effective patient care.

What You'll Be Doing

• Deliver high-quality consultant-led care within an Ophthalmology environment.
• Provide expert assessment and management of corneal and general ophthalmology patients.
• Undertake outpatient clinics across designated hospital sites.
• Participate in theatre sessions, including cataract surgery lists.
• Provide consultant on-call cover as part of the service requirement.
• Work collaboratively with consultants, nurses, optometrists and the wider multidisciplinary team.
• Maintain clear, accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with NHS standards.
• Identify and escalate clinical concerns appropriately.
• Contribute to maintaining a safe, effective and well-functioning clinical environment.

What We're Looking For

• Active GMC registration.
• Relevant recent UK experience within the NHS.
• Consultant-level experience in Ophthalmology.
• Experience in Corneal and General Ophthalmology.
• Cataract surgery experience.
• Ability to provide consultant on-call cover.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of an established multidisciplinary team.
• Strong clinical judgement, communication and professionalism.
• Valid Right to Work in the UK (please note we do not offer visa sponsorship).
