Cleaner – Grade 1 (Facilities Management and Building Services)

Job Description

We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Cleaner to join Durham County Council’s Facilities Management and Building Services team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining clean, hygienic and safe premises for staff, visitors and members of the public.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out general cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and dusting.
• Clean toilets, washrooms, kitchens and communal areas to a high standard.
• Empty bins and dispose of waste appropriately.
• Wipe down surfaces, furniture and frequently touched areas.
• Use cleaning products and equipment safely and in accordance with health and safety procedures.
• Follow designated cleaning schedules and maintain consistent hygiene standards.
• Report any maintenance issues, hazards or health and safety concerns.
• Ensure cleaning equipment and materials are stored safely after use.

Essential Skills and Experience

• A reliable, punctual and responsible approach to work.
• Good attention to detail and the ability to maintain high cleaning standards.
• An understanding of hygiene and health and safety practices.
• The ability to follow instructions and complete cleaning tasks efficiently.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable Experience

• Previous experience in a cleaning, housekeeping or facilities cleaning role.
• Experience using cleaning equipment and products safely.
