Art Technician - Secondary School - Lewisham

Tradewind Recruitment is currently seeking a skilled, enthusiastic and organised Art Technician to join a welcoming secondary school in Lewisham on a supply basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a creative and experienced individual with a relevant degree and previous experience in an Art Technician or similar educational support role. The successful candidate will play an essential part in supporting the Art Department, ensuring that practical lessons run smoothly and that students have access to the materials, equipment and resources they need to develop their creativity.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparing, organising and maintaining art materials, tools and equipment for lessons.
• Supporting teaching staff with the preparation of practical art activities and classroom resources.
• Ensuring art studios, storage areas and equipment are kept clean, organised and safe.
• Monitoring stock levels, ordering supplies and maintaining accurate inventories.
• Assisting with the safe use, storage and disposal of art materials in accordance with relevant health and safety procedures.
• Supporting the preparation of student artwork for exhibitions, displays and school events.
• Providing practical and technical assistance to teaching staff across a range of artistic disciplines.
• Contributing to the smooth day-to-day running of the Art Department.

Essential Requirements

• A degree in Fine Art, Art and Design, or a closely related subject is required.
• Previous experience working as an Art Technician or in a relevant practical art support role is essential.
• Good knowledge of art materials, techniques, equipment and associated health and safety procedures.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff.
• A proactive, reliable and flexible approach to working in a secondary school environment.
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Pay and Progression Opportunities

The hourly pay rate for this position ranges from £14.00 to £17.00 per hour, depending on the candidate's relevant experience, technical expertise and the responsibilities undertaken.

Candidates with less extensive experience who meet the essential requirements may be offered a rate towards the lower end of the advertised range.

• Relevant experience: Demonstrating substantial previous experience as an Art Technician, particularly within secondary schools.
• Specialist skills: Bringing advanced knowledge of artistic processes, equipment, materials and workshop safety.

• Additional responsibilities: Taking on duties such as coordinating stock management, supporting exhibitions, overseeing specialist equipment or assisting with departmental organisation.
• Proven performance: Demonstrating the ability to work independently, manage resources effectively and provide consistently high-quality technical support.

Any increase in pay would be subject to the responsibilities of the assignment, the school's requirements and agreement with Tradewind Recruitment. Progression to the upper end of the advertised range is not automatic or guaranteed.
