About the role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Transport Planner to join our growing Transport Planning team in Birmingham, based at our office on Cherry Street in the heart of the city.
This is an excellent opportunity for a transport planning professional with experience in development planning and the private sector who is looking to take the next step in their career within a growing multidisciplinary consultancy.
Based in our Birmingham city-centre office on Cherry Street, you’ll be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, working alongside colleagues across transport, highways, infrastructure, planning and the wider built environment. You’ll benefit from the expertise of our established teams while helping to grow our presence and client relationships across the Midlands.
You will work on a diverse range of development-led projects, providing transport planning advice to developers, housebuilders, landowners and property-sector clients.
From early-stage land promotion and masterplanning through to planning applications and delivery, you will help develop practical transport solutions that support successful development.
Working alongside experienced transport planners and technical specialists, you will have the opportunity to strengthen your technical expertise, take greater responsibility for projects and develop your client-facing and commercial skills.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Senior Transport Planner, you will take responsibility for delivering high-quality technical work across a range of development planning projects.
Your role will include:
-
Delivering transport planning projects across residential, mixed-use, commercial, employment and strategic development schemes.
-
Working closely with developers, housebuilders, landowners and other private-sector clients.
-
Providing transport planning advice throughout the development process, from early-stage feasibility and land promotion through to planning applications.
-
Preparing and reviewing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans and transport strategies.
-
Assessing the transport implications of development proposals and identifying appropriate mitigation measures.
-
Supporting the development of sustainable transport, accessibility and movement strategies.
-
Liaising with local highway authorities and other stakeholders.
-
Supporting planning applications and discussions with planning and highway officers.
-
Managing your own project tasks, programmes and technical deliverables.
-
Working closely with Project Managers and senior colleagues to ensure projects are delivered to a high standard.
-
Attending client and stakeholder meetings and presenting technical information where appropriate.
-
Working collaboratively with colleagues across planning, highways, engineering, infrastructure and environment.
-
Supporting bids, fee proposals and tender submissions.
-
Identifying opportunities for additional work and supporting the development of client relationships.
-
Developing your knowledge and network within the development and transport planning market.
-
Supporting and mentoring junior transport planners and helping to develop the wider team.
YOUR IMPACT
You will play an important role in helping clients navigate the transport and highways aspects of development and deliver well-connected, sustainable and successful places.
Your technical input will help clients understand transport opportunities and constraints, develop robust strategies and progress their schemes through the planning process.
You will also have the opportunity to develop beyond technical delivery by:
-
Building relationships with developers, housebuilders, landowners and other private-sector clients.
-
Increasing your exposure to client meetings and commercial discussions.
-
Supporting senior colleagues with business development and key client accounts.
-
Developing your own professional network across the regional market.
-
Contributing to bids and tenders.
-
Sharing your technical knowledge with colleagues and supporting junior team members.
-
Taking increasing ownership of projects and client relationships as your experience develops.
This is a great opportunity for someone looking to combine technical development planning experience with greater client exposure and career progression.
