Cathedral Appointments is recruiting on behalf of a well-established professional services firm for a Payroll Administrator to join its payroll team in Torquay. The team delivers payroll services to a varied range of business clients, and this role will take ownership of a portfolio of client payrolls, making sure every one is processed accurately and on time.

The Role

This is a client-facing payroll role suited to someone with solid payroll experience who enjoys looking after their own portfolio and building lasting client relationships. You will manage your clients independently while working within a collaborative team that supports one another, so it would suit someone organised, accurate and comfortable working to firm deadlines.

Responsibilities for the Payroll Administrator:

  • Process a varied range of client payrolls accurately and on time, as part of a supportive team
  • Manage your own portfolio of clients, acting as their main point of contact and prioritising work to meet agreed deadlines
  • Onboard new client payrolls, checking data is accurate and identifying ways to make processes more efficient
  • Liaise with HMRC on employer payments and payroll-related queries
  • Keep up to date with payroll legislation and apply changes correctly
  • Respond to client queries promptly, accurately and within agreed timescales

Requirements for the Payroll Administrator include:

  • Payroll experience, with a strong working knowledge of payroll legislation
  • Experience managing a portfolio of clients or payrolls effectively
  • Excellent client service skills and a polite, professional manner
  • A high level of accuracy and numeracy, with a methodical, organised approach
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and meet strict deadlines
  • Good IT skills, including confidence with Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel

Benefits:

  • Salary of up to £30,000, depending on experience
  • Permanent, full-time position
  • Hybrid working after probation: office-based Tuesday to Thursday, with the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays (office-based five days a week during probation)
  • On-the-job training in the early stages, with ongoing technical and skills development
  • An annual development and performance review supporting a clear career path within payroll

If you are an experienced payroll professional looking for a varied, client-facing role with genuine room to develop, we would love to hear from you.

Note on Sponsorship: We regret to inform you that at this time, we are unable to offer sponsorship for work authorisation for this role. Therefore, candidates must possess valid authorisation to work in the UK without requiring visa sponsorship.
