Finance Manager Mainstay Trust Ltd Glasgow – office based Iconic Resourcing is delighted to be retained by Mainstay Trust, a Glasgow charity that has supported adults with a learning disability since 1991. They help their service users have the best possible day, whether that’s through support at home, day activities or holidays with friends. Founded by families and friends, they are a close-knit team, many of whom have been there for years. Iconic is delighted to be supporting the organisation as they look for a Finance Manager to take the reins from the retiring postholder, with a proper three-month handover to get you settled.
The role This is a varied, hands-on job at the heart of the organisation. You’ll report to the CEO and lead a small finance team. Key Responsibilities:
- Own monthly payroll and management accounts, giving the CEO, Finance Committee and Board clear commentary and sound financial advice
- Lead the annual budget and keep forecasts up to date
- Oversee invoicing, credit control and the purchase ledger, including Glasgow City Council funding
- Look after the personal finances of around 40–50 of the people they support, helping with cash, bills and switching providers, with the right controls in place
- Run the finance for Moving Horizons Trust, the property-owning sister company
- Prepare the year-end accounts and be the main contact for external auditors
- Line-manage a finance assistant and work alongside admin colleagues
- Keep controls sound and look for sensible ways to improve processes
About you You’ll be a qualified accountant, or qualified by experience, with strong payroll and management accounting knowledge and a solid track record in budgeting and year-end. You’ll be confident explaining numbers to non-finance colleagues and leading a small team. You’ll also have:
- Strong spreadsheet and accounting-system skills (Sage 50)
- Sound judgement, attention to detail and a firm commitment to confidentiality
- Good interpersonal skills and a warm, practical approach
Practice experience is ideal. Experience in social care, the third sector or another regulated environment is a bonus. If you’ve worked at a senior level and fancy a more balanced working life, we’d love to hear from you.
What to expect Many processes are still largely manual and paper-based, and the organisation is at the start of modernising them, so you’ll help shape what comes next. The office is lively and friendly and the people they support drop in during the day, and some will stop for a chat, so you’ll need to be at ease around them. It’s a laid-back culture with no suit and tie and a good work-life balance.
