About the role
Learning Support Assistant (LSA) – Primary & Secondary
Alternative Provision | Burgess Hill, West Sussex
Pay: £105 per dayHours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pmStart date: ASAPContract: Temporary, with opportunities for temp-to-perm for the right fit
Are you an experienced Learning Support Assistant looking for a rewarding but challenging role where you can genuinely make a difference?
Pink Tile Education is working with an Alternative Provision in Burgess Hill that is looking for committed, resilient and positive Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) to support primary and secondary-aged students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
This is a setting where relationships are everything. Many of the students have experienced significant challenges in their lives and may be struggling emotionally, finding it difficult to trust adults or presenting with high levels of challenging behaviour.
The right person will understand that behind the behaviour is a young person who needs consistency, understanding, clear boundaries and adults who genuinely care.
Please note: This is a demanding role involving high levels of challenging behaviour. Previous SEND experience is essential, and you must feel confident supporting students who may become dysregulated or display challenging behaviour.
The Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will:
Support primary or secondary-aged students with SEND and SEMH needs.
Build positive, trusting relationships with students who may have had difficult experiences and struggle to engage with education.
Support students through periods of emotional dysregulation, using calm communication, de-escalation strategies and positive reinforcement.
Maintain strong, consistent boundaries while remaining patient, approachable and encouraging.
Help create a safe, structured and supportive learning environment.
Encourage engagement in learning, emotional regulation and positive choices.
Work closely with teaching staff to provide consistent support and help students reach their potential.
Primary or Secondary – Which Suits You Best?
There are opportunities to work at either the primary or secondary site, so if you feel you would be better suited to one age group, that’s absolutely fine!
Whether your experience and strengths are better suited to supporting younger children or secondary-aged students, we’d love to hear from you. We’ll look at where your skills, experience and personality would be the best fit.
What We’re Looking For
This role will suit someone who is resilient, emotionally intelligent and passionate about supporting young people who need the right adults around them.
You will need:
Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND.
Confidence managing challenging behaviour and supporting students experiencing emotional dysregulation.
A calm, patient and consistent approach, even when situations become difficult.
The ability to build relationships while maintaining firm, fair and appropriate boundaries.
A thick skin, a good sense of humour and the ability not to take challenging behaviour personally.
A positive, can-do attitude and a genuine commitment to helping young people succeed.
The ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow agreed behaviour support strategies.
You don’t need to have all the answers, but you do need to be willing to get stuck in, remain consistent and recognise that progress can take time.
These students need positive role models who won’t give up on them when things get difficult. They need adults who can look beyond the behaviour, recognise their potential and help them develop the confidence and skills to move forward.
Why Apply?
£105 per day.
Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm.
Immediate start available.
Opportunities for a temporary-to-permanent position for the right fit.
Choice of primary or secondary setting, depending on your experience and preference.
The chance to make a meaningful difference to young people who need consistency, encouragement and support.
Location & Transport
The provision is based in Burgess Hill, West Sussex. Public transport links can make the journey challenging, so being a driver with access to your own transport is strongly preferred. Please consider your commute before applying.
