About the role

Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer looking for the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects, develop your engineering knowledge and see your designs come to life?

We're working with an established engineering business in North Yorkshire that designs and manufactures specialist mechanical equipment for demanding operating environments.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive, multidisciplinary engineering team, contributing to both new product development and improvements to existing designs.

Whether you're developing your mechanical design career or already have a strong technical foundation, this role offers the opportunity to build your knowledge, take on varied engineering challenges and work closely with manufacturing teams.

What's in it for you?
  • 25 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays

  • Overtime paid at time and a half Monday to Saturday and double time on Sundays, after 37 hours worked

  • 5% salary sacrifice pension arrangement

  • Private healthcare

  • Life assurance worth twice your basic annual salary

  • 37-hour working week with flexible working hours available

  • Opportunities to develop specialist engineering knowledge and technical skills

  • Varied design projects working alongside experienced engineering professionals

What you'll be doing

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll support the design, development and improvement of specialist mechanical equipment, working alongside other engineers and production teams to deliver practical, reliable solutions.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Producing mechanical designs, detailed CAD drawings, engineering specifications and supporting documentation

  • Carrying out engineering calculations and supporting structural analysis to validate designs

  • Working on new product development and modifications to existing equipment

  • Supporting the selection of materials, components and manufacturing processes

  • Collaborating with production and assembly teams to resolve technical challenges and ensure designs can be manufactured effectively

  • Preparing technical documentation, including operating and maintenance information

  • Supporting engineering projects through design, manufacture, testing and delivery

  • Contributing to design improvements, technical problem-solving and continuous improvement activities

What we're looking for

We're keen to hear from Mechanical Design Engineers who enjoy practical engineering challenges and want to continue developing their technical capabilities.

You'll ideally bring:
  • Experience producing mechanical designs and technical drawings using 3D CAD software

  • Familiarity with SolidWorks, although experience with other mechanical CAD packages will also be considered

  • A Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent relevant engineering knowledge and practical design capability

  • An understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials and manufacturing processes

  • The ability to interpret technical drawings, consider tolerances and develop practical engineering solutions

  • A collaborative approach and an interest in working closely with manufacturing and engineering teams

Experience of engineering calculations, structural analysis, hydraulics, mechanical assemblies or simulation software would be advantageous, but isn't essential.

You don't need to have worked with this type of specialist equipment before. The business recognises that its products require particular technical knowledge and is open to supporting the right person in developing these skills.
