About the role

Role summary

You will run our embroidery and printing machines, applying school logos, crests and
names to uniform and PE kit.

Every garment you finish goes to a pupil, so accuracy, quality and turnaround matter. You will also pick and pack the items you have printed or embroidered, and stock going out to our other locations.

Key responsibilities
Embroidery

  • Set up and run multi-head embroidery machines, including hooping, threading and changing colours
  • Load the correct school logo design and check position, size and thread colours before each run
  • Add personalisation such as pupil names and initials where ordered
  • Trim, finish and check each garment before it moves on

Printing

  • Apply logos and text using heat press, transfer or DTF/vinyl printing as required
  • Check print position, colour and adhesion, and follow garment care settings
  • Prepare and cut transfers, and keep print supplies organised

Quality and production

  • Work through the production queue in priority order so school and customer deadlines are met
  • Spot faults early, fix or report rejects, and keep waste to a minimum
  • Log completed work and any mistakes or shortages on the stock system
  • Match garments against orders by school, style, size and quantity

Machines and supplies

  • Carry out daily cleaning, oiling and needle changes, and report breakdowns promptly
  • Monitor thread, backing, transfers and blanks, and flag low stock before it runs out
  • Keep the production area tidy, safe and organised

General

  • Order in the materials and supplies needed for production, liaising with suppliers on lead times and deliveries
  • Liaise with our other stores on their top-up requirements and arrange stock transfers between locations
  • Work on the company's ERP system as and when required, entering data, raising purchase orders, creating warehouse transfers and dispatching goods
  • Liaise with overseas suppliers, reviewing and approving samples for colours, logos and quality before production
  • Deal directly with schools and their PE departments, taking their requirements and converting them into clear instructions for our suppliers
  • Follow orders through from instruction to production and delivery, keeping the school updated and making sure the finished goods arrive on time and as specified
  • Liaise with external embroidery subcontractors on overflow work when asked
  • Follow health and safety procedures around machinery and heat presses
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties asked by management

Flexibility and peak season

July, August and September are our peak back-to-school months, when embroidery and printing volumes are at their highest.

Flexibility is a core requirement of this role, not an optional extra.

No annual leave from 1 July to 30 September. Holiday requests for these months will not be approved, except in genuine emergencies at the manager's discretion.

Annual leave is taken between October and June, booked in advance and agreed with your manager.

You may be asked to work extra hours, longer days or additional Saturdays during peak.

You may be asked to work at another location at short notice.

You will move between embroidery, printing and dispatch of finished and transfer stock as demand changes.

Outside peak, we will also expect reasonable flexibility for rush orders, stock takes and staff absence.
