About the role

Senior IT Project Manager
Up to £70,000
Hybrid (Taunton 3-4 days/week)

Our client will be undergoing a significant period of technology change over the next 3-5 years. As a result of this, they have recognised that there is a need to introduce more structure into their change delivery and project process.
The formalisation of this process will begin with a hybrid of Agile / Waterfall methodologies and formation of a team of internal and potentially external interim project managers.

A programme will be formed to implement a number of projects migrating from a disparate set of legacy system to a platform suite of COTS solutions, (i.e. Minimal development / bespoke work).

The business has significant legacy technical and operational debt - prioritisation is challenging (because everything is genuinely important!) - and this makes resource allocation and prioritisation challenging.

They are looking for our first in-house programme & project manager to support the delivery of projects. This role sits under the Head of IT and you’ll take ownership of key projects from initiation through to go-live, rolling up your sleeves to design, deliver and embed IT solutions across the business.

You’ll work hand-in-hand with internal teams, business stakeholders and third-party providers to make sure change actually lands.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading end-to-end delivery of IT projects and programmes, including software implementations, system configuration, upgrades and rollouts
  • Running process mapping and requirements gathering sessions with business experts, translating complex needs into clear, actionable project deliverables
  • Building and managing project plans, RAID logs, budgets and timelines, keeping delivery on track day to day
  • Getting close to design and technical issues and driving them to resolution with project teams, suppliers and end users
  • Coordinating testing, training, cutover and go-live activity so new systems and processes integrate smoothly with existing ways of working and minimise disruption to frontline services
  • Supporting and mentoring other project staff, and contributing to a service-focused culture across the IT team and the wider business
  • Applying proportionate project governance and helping shape best practice and continuous improvement across the IT portfolio

What we’re looking for

  • Proven, hands-on experience delivering IT software implementations, system configuration projects, business change and system rollouts
  • Strong working knowledge of project methodologies, including PRINCE2, Waterfall and Agile, and the judgement to know which approach fits
  • A confident, credible delivery lead who can coordinate a matrix team, influence at all levels and hold their ground on what matters while staying flexible on the rest
  • Experience managing project scope, change control and stakeholder expectations, including where there is resistance to change
  • A track record of working with detailed specifications: data requirements, process flows, user interface changes and user stories
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills, with the analytical rigour to match
  • PRINCE2 Practitioner, APM or PMP desirable but not essential

What’s in it for you

  • £65-70,000 salary, permanent role
  • 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, rising with length of service
  • 5% matched pension contribution
  • Private healthcare and life cover
  • Access to early wage access via a wage streaming benefit
  • Discounts across thousands of retailers through a dedicated rewards platform
  • A genuine investment in your development, including access to an online learning platform
  • Employee Assistance Programme

This is a role for someone who wants their project delivery skills to count for something beyond the balance sheet, helping a not-for-profit organisation deliver on its ambition to be the provider people choose.
