Maintenance Engineer

Up to £25 per hour DOE | Temporary, On-site | Exeter

Cathedral Appointments is recruiting on behalf of a well-established manufacturing business in Exeter for an experienced Maintenance Engineer to join on a temporary basis. This is a hands-on role keeping plant, machinery and site services running safely and efficiently, with a real focus on reducing downtime and improving reliability.

The Role

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager or Engineering Manager, you will carry out planned, preventative and reactive maintenance across the site, working closely with production to keep operations running smoothly. The role suits a multi-skilled engineer with a manufacturing background who enjoys fault-finding, solving problems for good and taking ownership of their work.

Responsibilities for the Maintenance Engineer:

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance on production machinery, plant and building services, scheduled around production needs.
• Respond quickly to breakdowns, diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and control system faults.
• Install, modify and commission new equipment and machinery.
• Investigate recurring faults through root cause analysis and put long-term solutions in place, supporting wider continuous improvement.
• Keep accurate maintenance records, manage spare parts and raise requisitions for parts and materials.
• Work safely and in line with health and safety legislation, liaising with external contractors and suppliers where needed.

Requirements for the Maintenance Engineer include:

• Previous maintenance experience within a manufacturing, production or industrial environment.
• Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding ability.
• Experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, motors, drives, gearboxes and conveyors.
• Able to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics, with a good understanding of health and safety in an engineering setting.
• NVQ Level 3, HNC or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical or Electromechanical Engineering, or a time-served apprenticeship.
• PLC knowledge (e.g. Siemens, Allen-Bradley or Mitsubishi) is desirable.
