Following on from the successful completion of the 600 Anniversary Campaign, the University is currently embarking on a range of exciting fundraising projects as part of a comprehensive philanthropic campaign to raise in the region of £250m – £300m, which is currently in its quiet phase.
The Campaign includes significant capital projects such as the development of a ‘New College’, the first new academic quadrangle in 300 years, a new Mathematics and Statistics building, the launch of the Mackenzie Institute for Early Diagnosis in the School of Medicine, and renewed commitment to growing scholarship support.
To support this, the Head of Development (Science & Medicine) will operate at the very highest level of donor cultivation in the UK and overseas, working closely with the Director of Development, Vice-Principal (International Strategy and External Relations) and Principal of the University, senior staff, and key volunteers to identify, cultivate and solicit significant major gifts from new and existing individual, trust, and corporate prospects for a range of key fundraising priorities.
Founded in 1413 and thriving in 2022, the University of St Andrews, the third oldest English-speaking university in the world, is ranked the top university in the UK by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022.
St Andrews is famous the world over for two reasons, it is the home of golf and for its University, with its reputation for the excellence of its staff and the quality of research-led teaching, both of which attract people from around the world.
The University is at the heart of this ancient town, being a historical centre of learning comprising a diverse community of 10,000 students and 2,750 staff from 140 countries.
This is an ideal opportunity for an enthusiastic high-performing development professional who has proven experience developing innovative and impactful donor strategies. Above all, you must be passionate about the role that philanthropy plays in supporting higher education for the benefit of society.
You will have experience of managing relationships with individuals in a highly tailored way, and a track record of soliciting six figure gifts for a range of projects, (at least five years’ experience) preferably in support of higher education. You will have line management experience, possess outstanding interpersonal and communications skills and be creative and strategic in your approach. You will also have the focus and interest to work proactively, both internally and with our 60,000 alumni, friends, and benefactors worldwide.
Travel: You will be required to undertake regular out-of-normal office hours working, including at weekends and evenings to attend meetings and facilitate events run by the Development Office, both in St Andrews, across the UK and from time to time overseas.
