SEN Teaching Assistant

A welcoming and inclusive Primary School in Malvern is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from mid-November. This is a full-time, long-term position supporting a Year 6 pupil on a 1:1 basis.
 

The successful candidate will provide consistent, individualised support to a pupil with additional needs, helping them to access learning, develop their confidence and make positive progress throughout the school day.
 

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and enjoys building strong, trusting relationships with pupils. The school is looking for someone who is patient, nurturing and confident in adapting their approach to meet the individual needs of the child.
 

As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

• Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 6 pupil with SEN.

• Supporting the pupil to access and engage with the curriculum.

• Adapting activities, resources and approaches to meet the pupil's individual learning needs.

• Developing a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil and providing consistent support throughout the school day.

• Supporting the pupil's academic, social, emotional and personal development.

• Encouraging independence, confidence and positive engagement in learning.

• Working closely with the class teacher to support lesson delivery and pupil progress.

• Implementing individual support strategies and following guidance from the SENCO and wider school team.

• Monitoring and recording the pupil's progress and sharing observations with relevant staff.

• Supporting positive behaviour and helping the pupil to manage any barriers to learning.

• Providing reassurance and encouragement to help the pupil overcome challenges.

• Supporting the pupil during transitions, breaktimes, lunchtimes and other activities where required.

• Working collaboratively with parents/carers and other professionals where appropriate.

To be successful in this 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant role, you will need:

• Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant within a Primary School setting.

• Experience supporting children with SEN is essential.

• Previous experience providing 1:1 support would be highly desirable.

• A strong understanding of SEND and how to adapt support to meet individual pupil needs.

• Experience supporting pupils with additional learning, behavioural, social or emotional needs.

• A nurturing, patient and resilient approach to supporting children.

• The ability to build strong, positive and trusting relationships with pupils.

• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

• Confidence working closely with class teachers, SENCOs and wider school staff.

• The ability to remain calm, consistent and positive when supporting pupils with additional needs.

• A proactive and flexible approach to supporting the pupil and wider classroom.

• A strong commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.

• A DBS on the update service, or issued within the last 12 months.

• A minimum of two excellent references.
