About the Role
Inspire Tutoring is seeking a calm, reliable and nurturing SEN Support professional to work alongside our therapeutic tutor in Ely, Cambridgeshire. You will help a seven-year-old Year 3 learner engage safely in personalised, low-demand activities while the tutor leads the educational programme. The learner experiences high levels of anxiety around education, is working below age-related expectations and has experienced trauma.
The focus will be on building trust, promoting emotional regulation and helping the learner access sessions consistently. Sessions may take place individually in a suitable community setting or within a communal learning environment. The provision must not involve animals.
SEN Support Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with the tutor to create a calm, safe and predictable learning environment.
- Support the learner to participate in therapeutic, interest-led and low-demand activities.
- Use co-regulation, positive reinforcement and de-escalation strategies to reduce anxiety.
- Recognise early signs of distress or dysregulation and respond in line with agreed support and risk-management plans.
- Prepare resources, support transitions between activities and help maintain appropriate routines and boundaries.
- Share relevant observations with the tutor and contribute to accurate session records and progress updates.
- Follow safeguarding, confidentiality, lone-working and health and safety procedures at all times.
SEN Support Essential Requirements
- Experience supporting primary-aged children with SEND, anxiety, trauma-related needs or barriers to school attendance.
- An understanding of trauma-informed, therapeutic and relationship-based practice.
- Confidence supporting children whose behaviour may present a risk to themselves, adults or the environment.
- A patient, flexible and non-confrontational approach.
- Ability to follow the tutor’s plans while using initiative appropriately.
- Strong communication skills, professional boundaries and dependable record keeping.
- An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one, together with satisfactory safeguarding and reference checks.
- Ability to travel reliably to the placement.
Working Arrangements
The successful SEN Support candidate will work in partnership with the appointed tutor throughout the placement in Ely, Cambridgeshire. Consistency is important, so applicants should be available across weekday mornings and able to commit reliably to the agreed timetable.
