Responsibilities and duties of the Senior UPS Field Service Engineer role

Reporting to the Service team you will:

• Install, commission and test single and three-phase UPS systems.
• Carry out load-bank testing and site acceptance testing.
• Complete planned preventative maintenance and remedial repairs on UPS systems.
• Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on UPS systems and associated electrical infrastructure.
• Act as a technical escalation point for complex faults and support root cause investigations.
• Carry out battery maintenance, installation, replacement and testing.
• Undertake site surveys and complete technical reports.
• Prepare and follow site-specific risk assessments and method statements.
• Support the training and development of junior engineers and trainees.
• Participate in a 24/7 on-call rota once fully trained and authorised.
• Travel throughout the UK and stay away from home when required.

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

• Previous experience in a UPS or critical power field service role.
• Strong experience with UPS commissioning, maintenance, fault finding and repair.
• Knowledge of UPS communication protocols, monitoring systems and static transfer switches.
• Strong electrical/electronic fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read and understand electrical circuit diagrams.
• HNC/HND or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
• Competent using electrical test equipment and hand tools.

Personal skills

The Senior UPS Field Service Engineer role would suit someone who is:

• Good communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Customer-focused and comfortable working independently on customer sites.
• Has a Full UK driving licence.
• Willingness to travel throughout the UK and stay away from home when required, typically around one week per month.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft 365.
