About the role
CREDIT CONTROLLER, £32,000. North Manchester Based.
We’re looking for an energetic, confident and commercially minded Credit Controller who enjoys talking to people, building relationships and taking ownership.
This is not a heads-down, purely administrative credit control role. We need someone with personality, presence and the confidence to pick up the phone, engage with customers and have constructive conversations about payments, credit limits and account management.
You’ll be someone who can build rapport quickly, balance great customer relationships with a firm commercial approach, and use financial information to make sound decisions. You’ll be comfortable analysing figures, assessing risk and managing credit exposure, but equally happy spending your day speaking to customers and colleagues to get things done.
If you’re proactive, personable and enjoy a role where no two conversations are quite the same, this could be the opportunity for you.
Responsibilities
- Proactively contact customers by phone to discuss outstanding payments, resolve queries and build strong working relationships.
- Set, review and manage customer credit limits, ensuring they reflect trading activity, payment behaviour and financial risk.
- Analyse customer accounts, payment history, financial information and exposure to support informed credit decisions.
- Take ownership of aged debt, agree realistic payment plans and confidently follow through on commitments.
- Identify potential risks early, spot unusual payment patterns and take appropriate action to minimise bad debt.
- Balance the need to protect the business with the importance of maintaining positive customer relationships and supporting sales.
- Work closely with sales, customer service and finance colleagues to resolve issues, manage risk and keep accounts running smoothly.
- Monitor debtor performance, review credit exposure and use figures to identify trends, concerns and opportunities for improvement.
Essentials
- Ideally, you’ll have experience in credit control, accounts receivable, debt management or a similar finance role, with a good understanding of credit risk and customer account management.
- You should be comfortable working with financial data, spreadsheets and accounting systems. Experience of setting and reviewing credit limits, assessing customer risk and managing aged debt would be particularly valuable.
- Just as importantly, we’re interested in how you communicate, how you approach customers and how confidently you make decisions. We’re looking for someone who brings energy and personality to the role, not simply someone who processes payments and sends statements.
