Pay Rate: £35.00 per hour

About the Role

Doncaster Council is seeking an experienced and compassionate Qualified Social Worker to join their dedicated Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) & Transitions team.

In this vital role, you will work directly with vulnerable young people who have arrived in the UK without adult care or support. You will be key to helping them rebuild their lives, settle into safe accommodation, navigate legal processes, and transition smoothly into independent living.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out comprehensive assessments, including age assessments, single assessments, and pathway plans for care leavers.

  • Provide high-quality, child-centered casework management to a manageable caseload of unaccompanied asylum-seeking children.

  • Work in close multi-agency partnership with the Home Office, immigration solicitors, health services, and educational providers.

  • Support young people through the asylum process, ensuring their legal, cultural, emotional, and physical needs are met.

  • Conduct regular statutory visits to children in care and pathway plan reviews for care leavers.

  • Safeguard vulnerable young people and advocate fiercely for their best interests.

Requirements
  • Qualification: Degree in Social Work (BA/MA/DipSW or equivalent).

  • Registration: Active registration with Social Work England.

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years post-qualifying experience in Children's Services (direct experience in UASC, Looked After Children, or Leaving Care teams is highly desirable).

  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of the Children Act 1989/2004, asylum processes, and relevant immigration legislation affecting separated children.

  • Driver: Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business travel.

Why Join Doncaster Council?
  • Competitive Rate: Premium pay rate of £35.00 per hour.

  • Work-Life Balance: Flexible hybrid working arrangements combining home working with local community visits.

  • Supportive Environment: Manageable workloads with regular, reflective supervision and strong team support.
