About the role

Senior Planning Engineer
Role OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Senior Planning Engineer to lead contract programming, progress monitoring, and production control across major civil infrastructure projects. In this role, you will act as a critical driver of project delivery, ensuring short- and medium-term operational plans align seamlessly with the master contract programme while delivering actionable performance insights to project leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contract Programme Management: Develop, maintain, and update high-quality main project contract programmes that satisfy client specifications, project targets, and corporate standards.
  • Performance Control & Reporting: Measure actual progress against short- and long-term targets using value-adding production control tools; produce clear dashboards and high-level reports to provide strategic insights to leadership.
  • Milestone & Dependency Tracking: Keep delivery teams focused on key milestones by identifying, analyzing, and explaining critical path drivers and follow-on dependencies.
  • Medium-Term Alignment: Facilitate and lead medium-term lookahead planning sessions alongside the delivery team to maintain alignment with the master contract schedule.
  • Operational Challenge: Review and constructively challenge short-term programmes generated by site delivery teams to ensure they are practical, resource-feasible, and aligned with overall project objectives.

Key Requirements
  • Industry Experience: Strong track record in civil engineering, ideally with direct planning experience on Highways projects or Regional Delivery Partnership (RDP) frameworks.
  • Tier 1 Contracting: Proven experience managing diverse planning, programming, and monitoring methodologies within a Tier 1 main contractor environment.
  • Technical Expertise: Sound technical understanding of civil engineering principles, construction techniques, sequence logic, and industry best practices.
  • Contractual Knowledge: Familiarity with standard construction contracts, technical specifications, and project documentation.
  • Communication & Leadership: Ability to engage delivery teams, facilitate planning workshops, and communicate complex schedule dependencies effectively.

Benefits & Workplace Offer
  • Health & Wellbeing: 24/7 digital healthcare access for employees and families, financial wellbeing resources, and a comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme (EAP).
  • Family & Leave Benefits: Enhanced family-friendly leave options, including generous maternity, paternity, dependants, and bereavement support.
  • Professional Growth: Structured continuous professional development and career progression opportunities.
  • Flexible Working: Agile working options, including flexible hours and hybrid arrangements tailored to the role.
  • Inclusive Environment: A collaborative, inclusive culture built on diverse perspectives and dynamic teamwork.
